We invite you to the second Forum "Sochi 2014: Translating the Games"

In December 2012, the Organizing Committee of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and the XI Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in the city of Sochi will stage a second Forum, named «Sochi 2014: Translating the Games» Last year, the Forum took place from December 3rd to December 4th in the Mountain Cluster, and its packed program earned positive feedback from everyone who attended. It is worth mentioning that more than 500 people attended the Forum — a record for the Russian translation community.

Like last year, the objective of our Forum is to share information with the translation community in Russia (and around the world) about such a large-scale event as the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, as well as to focus on issues related to the provision of language services during the preparations for the Games. Moreover, we would like to share our work experience, listen to the opinions of professionals in the field of translation and invite them to participate in the process of preparing and staging the Games. The Forum will be dedicated to a wide range of issues related to the preparations for our Games, which are Russia’s number one national sports project. We will discuss what can be learned from the way language support was organized at previous Olympic Games, the current work of the Organizing Committee and its plans for the future regarding interpreting and written translations, the work that volunteers are doing and much more.

The Forum has invited representatives of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee management, representatives of state bodies, IOC experts, the Partner companies of the Organizing Committee, professional translators from Russia and other countries, leading translation companies from Russia and the rest of the World, representatives of Sochi Administration, students and graduates from specialized Higher Education Institutions and translation schools, foreign language teachers and many others.

Attendance at the Forum is free of charge and we really look forward to seeing everyone in Sochi in December this year. The second Forum «Sochi 2014: Translating the Games» will take place from December 7th to December 8th 2012 in the Coastal Cluster, at the recently constructed Olympic Family Hotel, where VIPs from the IOC will be accommodated during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
