Marat Bariev

Honorary President of the All-Russian Union of Public Associations “Russian Olympic Committee” (ROC)

Mr. Bariev was born on July 9, 1961 in Kazan. He graduated from Kazan Aviation Institute in 1984 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Bariev then received his Masters in Business Administration in 2010.

From 1994 to 2001 Mr. Bariev was the Republic of Tartarstan’s State Committee Head for Children and Youth Affairs.

In 2000 Mr. Bariev graduated from the Law Faculty of Kazan State University. That same year he led Vladimir Putin’s election campaign in the Republic of Tatarstan for Russian president.

Mr. Bariev was the Republic of Tatarstan’s Minister for Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism from 2001 to 2010.

Mr. Bariev was one of the initiators for promoting Kazan as for a candidate city to host the Worldwide University Games. He is currently a member of the Game’s Organizing Committee and the University Games Supervisory Board for 2013.

Mr. Bariev is a member of the All-Russian Voluntary Association “Sport Russia”, Vice-President of the Russian Student Sport Union, member of the FISU Development Commission and board member of the Russian Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

He is a Presidium member of the Russian Federation of Track and Field.

He was given the Service to the Nation award for his achievements in state youth policy. Mr. Bariev has a Ph.D. in political science, is a Professor at Kazan Aviation Institute holding the Chair of Sport Management. He heads the biathlon and skiing divisions.

Mr. Bariev is married and has one daughter.
