
Ilya Averbukh
Ice dancer, Olympic Medalist, producer of ice shows and Sochi 2014 Ambassador
Ilya Averbukh won a silver medal in figure skating at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, won gold at the world championships in 2002 and the European championships in 2003. The well-known figure skater is currently playing an active role in a number of projects being run by the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee. Thus during the Games in London, Ilya Averbukh enjoyed success with his ice show, "Sochi: small stories of a big city". The show which took place in Sochi.Park, featured six Olympic champions and 18 world champions, including Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov, Aleksei Yagudin, Ilya Averbukh, Tatiana Totmyanina and Maksim Marinin. It was the first time that an ice show of such scale had been staged overseas. A total of over 12,000 spectators watched the show, which featured some of the biggest stars from the world of figure skating.“We’re getting closer and closer to the Sochi Games with each passing day and it's a great honor for me to become part of the team of Sochi 2014 Ambassadors. Ilya Averbukh was named a Sochi 2014 Ambassador during the unveiling of the Olympic and Paralympic torch design. A honorary diploma was presented to him by the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko. Ilya Averbukh is the 37th person to join the team of Sochi 2014 Ambassadors.
