Figure skater, Olympic Champion Sochi 2014 Ambassador
Yevgeny Plushenko — renowned Russian figure skater, 2006 Olympic Champion three-time World Champion, five-time European Champion in men’s figure skating and Russian Sports Master. Born on November 3, 1982 in Solnechny, (Khabarovsk Krai) and growing up in Volgograd, Plushenko began figure skating at age 4. At age 11, he began skating in Saint Petersburg. Yevgeny began training with Alexei Mishin, after whom he went on to work with Tatiana Tarasova.“I want to show everyone, by my skating, that I can still perform, even after winning the Olympic Games. ”
Yevgeny became the first figure skater in history to land the quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop-triple loop jump combination and the first man to complete the Biellmann spiral, a cascade of triple axel-triple flip-Euler, and others.
Yevgeny was one of the most famous athletes presenting Sochi 2014 on July 4, 2007 at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala, when Sochi won the right to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2014.
In May 2008, together with fellow Sochi 2014 Ambassador Dima Bilan, Yevgeny participated in the Eurovision Song Concert. Their song “Believe” received the winning 1st place.
Not long before the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Yevgeny won the European Championship 2010 in Tallinn and set a new world record. At the Vancouver Games, Plushenko became a silver medalist.
