Spain has only won two medals in winter Olympic competition. Both belong to siblings and were won 20 years apart.
Francisco 'Paquito' Fernandez Ochoa won a surprise gold medal in the men's slalom at the 1972 Sapporo Games, not having previously finished better than sixth in international competition.
Twenty years later in Albertville, his younger sister Blanca Fernandez Ochoa, herself a veteran of three previous winter Olympic campaigns, won bronze in the women's slalom. In doing so she became the first Spanish woman to win a medal at either the winter or summer Olympic Games.
