Sochi 2014, the organizers of the next Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, has appointed Fyodor Bondarchuk, the famous Russian actor, film director and producer, as an official ambassador. He accepted the role from Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 President and CEO, at the Gala ceremony opening the Cultural Olympiad and the Year of Cinema.
Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said:
“Our new Sochi 2014 ambassador is someone who is hugely successful in Russian
cinematography. Cinema has a unique beauty and one of the greatest things about the genre is that it is available to the widest audience, and popularity of Fyodor Bondarchuk’s films is the perfect example of these facts. We are delighted to nominate Fyodor Bondarchuk as one of our ambassadors and look forward to working successfully together to promote Sochi 2014”.
After accepting the Sochi 2014 Ambassador Diploma, Fyodor Bondarchuk thanked the Sochi 2014 Organization Committee for giving him the opportunity to assume such a significant role and pledged to do all he can to support the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“The Olympic Games is an exciting new challenge in my life and I’m interested to discover how my new role will influence my future work.
“Indeed, the themes of sport, fair play and social development – particularly those linked to positive attitude towards people with a disability - may well become a fertile ground for my projects in the future,” said Fyodor Bondarchuk.
Fyodor Bondarchuk is the first cinema-industry representative among Sochi 2014 Ambassadors. The ambassadors appointed to date include Russian personalities and Olympic and Paralympic champions such as Evgeny Plushenko, Irek Zaripov, Alexander Ovechkin, Valery Gergiev, Yury Bashmet, Dima Bilan and Natalya Vodyanova.
