The “Sport in the Name of the World” festival has been held at the all-Russian children’s centre “Orlyonok” (“Eaglet”). Guests at “Eaglet” included the bobsleigh Olympic silver and bronze medallist, Sochi 2014 Ambassador, honoured Russian master of sport and three-time world champion in arm-wrestling, Alexey Voevoda.
By invitation of the General Director of the centre, Alexander Dzhuesa, a meeting of famous sportsmen and “eaglets” was held in the palace of sport and culture. They discussed their sporting success at the recent Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the active and healthy lifestyles of current champions. The young men were so delighted by meeting the Olympians that they asked many questions about the Games in Sochi, the sports in which Alexey is involved, arm-wrestling and other dedicated sportsmen. After the captivating speech, Alexey signed hundreds of autographs.
In the evening at the stadium, the Sochi 2014 Ambassador awarded the winners of all sporting competitions which took place during the “Sport in the Name of the World” festival. More than 2,500 young people from across all regions of Russia competed in the sporting areas of the centre. The Eagles came from various faculties of the sports academy. The best graduates received certificates of success on completion of the unique sports academy.
