American ice hockey team gained victory in USA-Russia match, which was really a nail-biting Sochi Olympic clash in the latest chapter of the two giants' historic rivalry. T.J. Oshie scored the shootout winner as the United States defeated Russia 3-2.
Pavel Datsyuk had two goals in regulation for the Russians, while Joe Pavelski and Cam Fowler scored goals for the Americans with both coming while Russian forward Alexander Radulov was sitting in the penalty box.
With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, the Russians appeared to score the winner with just under five minutes left, but referees Marcus Vinnerborg and Brad Meier disallowed the goal apparently because the net had been knocked out of place.
Ilya Kovalchuk (RUS), forward:
"Everything is OK, nothing terrible has happened. We played good and showed our character by equalising the game at the end and now we will be getting ready for the future."
