A gala concert featuring British ballet stars including the premier of Covent Garden Matthew Golding and English National Ballet soloists will take place at the Winter Theater in Olympic Sochi. Being the final participant of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad the project does not only symbolize a relay taken by Sochi from London 2012 Olympic Games, but also is one of the first events of the Year of Russia and Great Britain, the large-scale cultural program that will unfold in both countries in 2014.
Throughout the year, all events - exhibitions, concerts and creative meetings – will showcase rich and diverse cultural ties between the two countries. The cross-cultural year is being supported by the British Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
The gala concert will be attended by internationally distinguished Russian ballet stars, Ulyana Lopatkina, Denis Matvienko, Irina Perren, Marat Shemiunov, Kristina Kretova, Denis Medvedev, Anastasia Kolegova, Igor Kolb, Danila Korsuntsev, Mikhail Lobukhin, Anastasia Stashkevich and Anna Tikhomirova.

Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad
The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is a unique project by the organizers of the Games, offering the best cultural events in the country. Since 2010, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee and dozens of Russian regions have carefully selected the best of Russian culture.
Between 2010 and 2014 thousands of different cultural events have been held across the country. Each year, the Cultural Olympiad is dedicated to a different art form: 2010 was the Year of Cinema, 2011 the Year of Theater, 2012 the Year of Music, and 2013 was the Year of Museums.
The national scale of the project makes it possible to involve every citizen of the country in a grand cultural celebration, which preserves and increases the cultural wealth of our country. During four years, within the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, more than 3,000 events have been staged, involving the participation of more than 100,000 performers from around the country. Over three million spectators have viewed the events.
Notable projects within the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad were the Winter Festival of Arts by Yury Bashmet, the national inclusive children's competition "Class Mira", the "Russian Regions Marathon" project, the international festival by Yury Butman "Aquajazz. Sochi Jazz Festival", the "Red Rocks" musical project, the "White Stick" festival, the national festival of modern theaters "ProTheater" and the "Olymp Texture" theater competition.
