The Finnish ice hockey team kicked off with a confident victory over the Austrian team at the Olympic Games. In their first match in the group stage, the Scandinavians defeated the Austrians with the score 8:4 and moved into first place in Group B.
The first period began quite well for the Austrian players - all of a sudden they opened the scoring in the second shift. But their opponents managed to get themselves together, and by the end of the first 20-minute period Finland led by a margin of two goals.
In the second period, Finland established their superiority and did everything possible to bring the meeting to a final victory. Austria did not want to just give them a victory. Displaying speed and precision, the forward Michael Grabner scored a hat-trick.
Today at 21:00 in Group B teams from Canada and Norway will compete. On Friday, Finland will meet Norway while Austria meets Canada on Olympic ice.
