A series of special stamps have added to the philatelic licensed collection dedicated to the XXII Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014. The new edition is dedicated to non-Olympic sports, and awards that winning athletes receive at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
The official cancellation ceremony of the new press sheet "XXII Olympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi" was held in the post office of the Main Media Center of the 2014 Games.
The following people took part in the ceremony: Head of the Federal Agency of Communications Oleg Dukhovnitsky, President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko and General Director of FSUE "Russian Post" Dmitry Strashnov.
The new series consists of three separate stamps, each of which shows a gold, silver and bronze Sochi 2014 medal. For the first time, three types of metallic paint were simultaneously used in the creation of the issue - bronze, silver and gold, as well as relief stamping. This technology makes the new "medal" issue even more unique and gives the image of the award a kind of 3D effect - when you touch the stamps they feel like real miniature medals.
There will be 150,000 copies of the new stamp sheets. Thus, each stamp has a denomination: the stamp featuring a bronze medal – 25 rubles, silver medal -50 rubles, and gold - 75 rubles. The stamp sheets are 136x80 mm, and the stamps are 37x26; 26x37 mm. The cover art has also been prepared for release, the inside of which is the stamp sheet and first day cover with the official cancellation ceremonies in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi.
The surface of each stamp sheet is marked with a special QR-code with an encrypted link to the official website of the Games in Sochi http://www.sochi2014.com/en
Notes for the editor
Postal and philatelic products have accompanied all the modern Olympic Games since 1896. Stamps issued by the country hosting the Games are a part of every Olympics and, without doubt, highly prized items in any stamp collection.
The Sochi 2014 Philatelic Program began in 2011, with the launch of a press sheet featuring the stamp "Sochi - the host city for the XXII Olympic Winter Games of 2014". The first stamps were also launched in the series "The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Tourism on Russia's Black Sea Coast" and "The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Olympic Winter Sports". The total circulation of all stamps issued in 2011 was more than 10 million, while in 2012 this reached approximately 12 million. Sales from the first few months alone have revealed strong interest in the stamps, both from philatelists and the population as a whole.
In total, 6 sheets of stamps and 50 different stamps, maximum cards and postcards will be released prior to the Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi, as well as collectors' editions of all the stamps released, in decorative bindings. The subjects used for Sochi 2014 philatelic merchandise include winter sports, mascots of the 2014 Games, the Olympic sports venues, the Olympic Torch Relay, sports legends and views of Krasnodar Region.
