More than 70 volunteers fr om Baltika and other citizens of Krasnoyarsk participated in a cleanup on the banks of the Yenisei River near Otdykha Island.
The cleanup was organized as part of the Seven Rivers All-Russian Environmental Campaign, which is being conducted by Baltika. Understanding the significance of respecting the environment and supporting the Sochi 2014 Environmental Program, Baltika is doing its part for the future of the country.
Within just four hours volunteers were able to collect more than 200 bags of rubbish including glass, aluminum, PET and other household waste. After carefully sorting the waste collected at the event, more than 170 kilograms of raw material suitable for recycling was sent off for processing.
"I was pleased to respond to Baltika's call to take part in the cleanup of Otdykha Island. I was able to feel how my sense of responsibility for my favorite city increased after participating in the event. Hopefully, when we come here again after some more time has passed, then the island will delight us with its cleanliness" said Alexander Ponomarev, a participant in the event and Krasnoyarsk-based racing driver.
"I have already participated in such events before, but this time I was pleasantly surprised by how much collected waste was sent off for recycling. The organizers showed us the many things that are made from recycled plastic such as eco-purses, for example. This means that such events not only set a good example for citizens and develop a culture, but they also have a positive impact on the environment " said Tatyana Drako, event participant, director of a travel agency and blogger.
The goal of the organizers was not only cleaning places wh ere residents of Krasnoyarsk engage in leisure activities. Baltika also seeks to develop a culture of recycling and reuse of materials that allows for reducing consumption of natural resources and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the disposal of this waste and the production of new materials.
