17 May 2013
On the 30th May 2013, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee will present the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic medals. The presentation of the medals will take place in St. Petersburg during the 11th SportAccord International Convention.
Following the tradition, medals are presented about a year before the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It’s a very important milestone as one of the essential and most wanted attributes of the Games is being shown to general public.
A record-breaking number of competitions will take place during the Winter Games in Sochi, meaning a record number of medals will be produced.
Approximately 1,300 medals will be made, with their own unique design, distinguishing them from medals given away in previous Olympic and Paralympic Games, emphasizing Russia's national character and identity.
The medals presentation ceremony on May 30 in St. Petersburg will be attended by President and CEO of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, famous athletes and public figures.
