The Sochi 2014 Year of Music concludes in Sochi
The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad Year of Music will conclude with a debut concert by the newly created All-Russian Youth Orchestra. The concert will take place as part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad and will be conducted by Sochi 2014 Ambassador, Yuri Bashmet.
The Youth Orchestra’s first performances will take place on the 28 and 29 November in Sochi. The concert will also be streamed live from the Sochi Winter Theater on November 29 and will be available on Sochi 2014’s website (sochi2014.com).
The youth orchestra brought together young talent from across Russia over the course of seven months. Over 400 students from children's music schools, children's art schools and music academies across the country participated in the auditions. Seventy nine young musicians, aged 9 to 21, from 28 cities of Russia, were granted the "start in life" pass from the jury of experts. The orchestra will become part of the rich cultural heritage the Games will leave behind.
The concerts taking place on the 28 and 29 November will be the first in a series of performances by the orchestra. After this, the next time the young musicians will perform together will be during the Olympic Games in Sochi.
The President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, said:
"Although the Olympic and Paralympic Games are taking place in 2014 we can already see the positive impact they are having today. The talented children of the All-Russian Cultural Olympiad Youth Orchestra, created under the patronage of Yuri Bashmet, are a great example of the unique cultural heritage of the Games."
The world-famous conductor, People's Artist of Russia, and Sochi 2014 Ambassador, Yury Bashmet, said:
"The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad has provided hundreds of young musicians from across Russia a unique opportunity to demonstrate their skills and become part of a large-scale nationwide music project. It’s a fantastic feeling to see the children getting involved in music.”
The Year of Music of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad has uncovered fresh young talent in the musical arts. It has also given hundreds of musicians across the country a unique opportunity to showcase their skills and gain valuable knowledge and experience. The finalists were also given the opportunity to participate in master classes and rehearsals, which were held by renowned Russian and international musicians.
The Year of Music of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad will pass the baton to the Year of Museums in 2013.
Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad
The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is a unique project by the organizers of the Games, offering the best cultural events in the country. In 2014, visitors of the Olympic host city will showcase the cultural diversity of Russia at venues located in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana. Since 2010, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, along with regions throughout the country, has been carefully selecting the best of Russian culture.
From 2010 to 2014, thousands of different cultural events will take place across the entire country. Each year, the Cultural Olympiad is dedicated to a different art: 2010 was the Year of the Cinema, 2011 the Year of the Theater, 2012 is the Year of Music, and 2013 will be the Year of the Museum.
The third year of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is devoted to music. As always, the organizers of the first Olympic Winter Games in the history of Russia will present hundreds of the best cultural events to the public. Among them will be concerts and festivals with the best Russian and international classical and modern musicians, competitions, round tables and master-classes.
The scale of the project will make it possible to get every resident of the country involved in this grand celebration of music which will maintain and add to the cultural riches of Russia.
