Culture and Values

The Games in Sochi will not only demonstrate the cultural diversity of Russia to the world, but they will also become a catalyst for the development of new directions in cinema, music and theater, contribute to the protection of cultural venues and facilitate the exposure of millions of Russians to cultural values.

The main objectives of activity in the area of "Culture and national values" in the context of preparation for the 2014 Games are:

  • The development of patriotism and the feeling of national pride;
  • Helping to maintain cultural diversity;
  • Ensuring access of cultural events;
  • Maintaining the cultural legacy.

The main tasks of participants in the Olympic project are:

  • The promotion of the values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement;
  • The organization and staging of mass cultural and sports events;
  • The creation of a system of volunteer centers and the development of a volunteer movement in Russia;
  • The demonstration of the cultural diversity in the region of Sochi and in Russia as a whole;
  • The involvement of various creative forces in the preparation and staging of the Games in Sochi;
  • The maintenance and protection of cultural venues.

The implementation of objectives and tasks in the area of culture are carried out with the support of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, a unique project of the Games' organizers, presenting the best cultural events of the country. In 2014, visitors of the Olympic host city will be able to evaluate not only the competition results but also the cultural diversity of Russia at a number of staging venues located in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana. Therefore, since 2010, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, along with dozens of regions throughout the country, has been carefully selecting the best of Russian culture.

From 2010 to 2014, thousands of different cultural events will take place across the entire country. Each year, the Cultural Olympiad is dedicated to a different art: 2010 was the Year of the Cinema, 2011 the Year of the Theater, 2012 is the Year of Music, and 2013 will be the Year of the Museum.

The third year of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is devoted to music. As always, the organizers of the first Olympic Winter Games in the history of Russia will present hundreds of the best cultural events to the public. Among them will be dozens of concerts and festivals with the best Russian and foreign classical and modern musicians, competitions, round tables and master-classes.

The national scale of the project will make it possible to involve every resident of the country in this grand celebration of music, maintaining and increasing the cultural riches of our country.
