Sochi will become an example for other Russian cities in the quality management of the urban environment, including in the disposal of solid domestic waste and sewage sludge, measures for the improvement of air quality etc. The Sochi 2014 environmental programs are designed to protect the rare types of flora and fauna of the region, to improve the condition of water and forest resources, as well as to increase the level of environmental responsibility in the country.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Movement, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has developed a system of Olympic education which is being implemented at all levels. popular, academic and professional. The creation of the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU ) will become a key project in preparing a new generation of highly-qualified sports managers in Russia. The RIOU will provide training for the coaches thanks to the study of international experience in the sports industry and the integration of the latest training methods of athletes.

The Games will become a stimulus for the development of the volunteer movement. Today, 2% to 9% of the population is currently involved in volunteer activity in the RF depending on the region, while similar indicators in Canada are reaching 35%. Around 25,000 people will be involved in work at the Olympic venues during the Games. The recruitment of volunteers takes place at special Volunteer Centers, which were founded on the basis of 26 Russian educational institutions.
