For participation in the olympic games - a fruit garden and a herd!
Eighteen year old Mehdi-Sélim Khelifi of Algeria has never been an Olympic champion. It's unlikely he'll ever become one, even despite his young age. He came in 84th in 15 kilometer freestyle ski racing — unlikely to be recorder in the highest pantheon of sporting achievements. However, even such a modest achievement was enough for Khelifi's homeland to literally carry him up on their shoulders — for putting up a good show and representing his country, he was awarded with — get ready — a fruit plantation and a herd of goats! An incredible wealth by Algerian standards!
